Information about the claimed unsinkable ship - the RMS Titanic.

An assortment of information regarding the Titanic.

The Unfortunate Ship - The RMS Titanic was spelled for disaster. On the very outset of the Titanic's maiden voyage, the New York, a liner, almost rammed into the Titanic before it was towed away by a tugboat. The Titanic only had 20 lifeboats on board, which led to a significant loss of life during the sinking.

Why the Titanic was Deemed Unsinkable?
The Titanic was built to be "unsinkable". It featured the most advanced technology of the time and was invested heavily upon. The ship was the most luxurious and elaborate of its time. The Titanic had 16 watertight compartments, which would close automatically if water had entered through a breach on the exterior of the ship. The ship had wireless technology, radio monitoring, and speed. Because of the naval architecture of the ship, lifeboats were considered unimportant and thus only 20 were on board.

How the Titanic Ended its Maiden Voyage in Vain
On Sunday, April 14, 1912, the Titanic received several iceberg warnings from other ships making the transatlantic journey. The captain disregarded these warnings, and the Titanic continued at full-speed. At 11:40 PM, lookout officers Reginald Lee and Frederick Fleet glimpsed an iceberg just ahead of them. The engines were immediately ordered to be stopped. However, it was too late - the iceberg had made a 300 foot gash along the hull, and water entered. Sea water filled five compartments, one compartment more than the Titanic could handle to remain afloat.
