An assortment of information regarding the Titanic.

The Titanic - The Titanic was built during the early part of the era, and was the most expensive ship of its time. It was the crown-jewel of the famous British company White Star Line. The Titanic amazed the passengers and awed all competitors. Voyage on the Titanic was available to all classes - the prosperous, adequate, and less fortunate.

Construction of the Titanic
The Titanic was designed by Thomas Andrews, Lord Pierre's nephew. Over 14,000 employees from Harland and Wolf worked on building this massive ship. The ship was designed to be 882 1/2 feet long, and have a height of an eleven story building. The Titanic was built to be the most luxurious ship in the world. It surpassed all other ships. The Titanic featured a grand staircase, beautiful rooms, a swimming pool & turkish bath, huge decks, a lounge, and much more. The Titanic had 16 watertight compartments, and was thus proclaimed "unsinkable" by the press.

The Lavishness and Beauty
The lavishness of the ship left onlookers breathless. The Titanic was the ship to be on; the ship of dreams. The interior of the Titanic was handsome in a way that no other competitor could rival. Some components of the Titanic were sacrificed in order to make the Titanic look more gorgeous. For example, the Titanic was designed to hold 32 lifeboats, but only 20 were on board. White Star management was concerned that too many boats would sully the aesthetic beauty of the ship.
